CNA Classes in Oklahoma

Oklahoma City and Tulsa, the two biggest cities in Oklahoma, are the state’s economic anchors and as a result, the state’s population tends to concentrate around these metro areas. That means the state of Oklahoma has a large demand for skilled health care professionals and that includes certified nursing assistants (CNAs). For people interested in working in health care, becoming a CNA in Oklahoma can be a great first step in a rewarding career.

In order to work as a Nurse Aide in a long-term care facility or nursing home for longer than 120 days (four months), you need to achieve state certification. Both the written and the competency exam are required to be completed within these four months in order to continue being employed as a Nurse Aide. Military nurses, nursing students, and foreign nurses may directly take the exam as they can apply to be exempted from classes by providing the relevant documents to the Department of Health.

Oklahoma CNA Programs & Testing Costs

To gain a CNA certification in Oklahoma you must pass a state-approved course. These are a minimum of 120 hours, at least 16 of which must be dedicated to clinical classes. The duration of the program might vary by school. This combination of in-person and classroom learning is designed to make graduates job-ready to work straight away, however, all trainees must have full attendance to be able to graduate. Courses usually take 3-4 weeks to complete but there might be faster programs available. Upon graduation, you become eligible to sit the certification exam and be placed on the Oklahoma nurse aide registry. Your score on this exam must be a minimum of 70% in the written exam and at least 80% in evaluation in order to pass. If you have difficulty reading in English you may ask to be tested orally on your application.

Certification costs widely vary in the state of Oklahoma depending on when and where you train. CNA classes in Oklahoma may cost as low as $485 or as high as $1820 for tuition, which might include textbook costs, uniform costs, and the like.
