STNA Training in Ohio

Ohio state sealOhio is among the nation’s industrial powerhouses. The state is also known for its rich soils; soybeans, oats, and corn are all produced from the state. Tourism brings in billions to the state and the homes of Presidents Grant and Taft attract several visitors. A state this busy has a need for a well-trained, thoroughly prepared medical staff. STNAs are a critical part of any medical staff. Those who wish to make an impact on others in the field of medical care should consider beginning STNA training.

Ohio STNAs must obtain certification before providing their services. STNA training can take a few months; state law requires training to last for at least four months. The most typical way of obtaining certification is by completing a state-approved program and by taking the competency exam. Those who successfully graduate and pass the exam qualify for placement on the Ohio Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry.

Ohio STNA Certification Requirements

The state of Ohio does not enforce minimal education requirements for prospective candidates. However, each facility has its own set of standards set for their prospective students. Those who do not have a high school diploma may need to pass a reading and writing comprehension exam.

Prospective candidates should also:

  • be at least 16 years of age
  • be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English
  • be able to pass a criminal background check
  • have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • have a valid state-issued ID card
  • have a physical exam and TB clearance (current within 1 year)
  • have meningitis, Hep B, MMR, and Varicella vaccines
