- Passing a background check
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Demonstrated basic reading comprehension skills by passing the TABE reading and math test for those who did not receive a high school diploma

- Negative TB test
- Current immunization records
- A clear background check
- Valid State Identification
Hawaii CNA Program & Testing Costs
Programs that are state-accredited require a minimum of at least 100 hours of instruction. The time is split into two sections for the clinical aspect and the classroom. The clinical hours that must be met are a total of 30 and the classroom/lab time are 70 hours. You must complete the required hours and then you are eligible to take the state exam.
Hawaii has over 20 state-approved program sites. Each site varies in costs averaging between $1,100 to $1,500 with books, medical supplies and fees included. Before you transfer your Licensure, you will want to contact the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA). They will determine if you need to take the competency evaluation or if you will be able to have your Licensure directly placed on the registry.
