CNA Classes in Kentucky

Kentucky is known for its beautiful landscape, affordable housing, and healthcare. This state is one to be considered when deciding to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. As baby boomers are retiring, Kentucky has an increased need for healthcare. Kentucky would be a great place to start your career in healthcare.

The great news is that Kentucky will allow a non-CNA to work up to four months while attending a state-approved program. As a student, you must pass all requirements by the end of the four-month period. If for some reason you do not pass the state requirements, the four-month period cannot be renewed.

Kentucky CNA Certification Requirements

There are certain requirements that must be met in order to become a CNA. Listed below you can find the requirements:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Passing a background check
  • Have a minimum of an 8th-grade education
  • Demonstrated basic reading comprehension skills in English
  • Negative drug test
  • Negative TB test
  • Current immunization records

Kentucky CNA Classes & Testing Costs

Some of the Kentucky CNA state-approved programs can take as little as three weeks to complete. There are state requirements of 75 hours of combined classroom and clinical time that must be completed before one can take the certification exam. The certification prepares students to work in skilled nursing, long-term care, and in hospitals. 

The costs for the CNA programs vary depending on the location and the facility. The average costs of state-approved programs in Kentucky are between $600- $1000. There may be additional costs to consider beyond the program. Additional costs such as books, uniforms, and equipment such as stethoscopes should also be considered when budgeting. CNA Classes in Kentucky

There are CNA classes in Louisville, Lexington, and throughout Kentucky. These are some of the more popular locations people choose for their CNA program.

Ashland Community and Technical College. ACTC offers a convenient two-semester program at the Roberts drive campus in Ashland. 

Kentucky Healthcare Training Institute. Tuition is less than the average cost of $475.00. The program is flexible with payments, and the website has a lot of information to offer.

Hazard Community and Technical College. HCTC is located in Hazard, Kentucky with a flexible schedule and payment options. The great thing about taking a program with a community college is that some of the credits may be transferable. If you have further questions, I would contact the college directly. 

Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Located in Lexington, Kentucky, this program also offers a flexible schedule and flexible payment options.

Out of State CNAs

Kentucky does recognize some states and will allow for reciprocity. A valid ID is required, along with a clean background from your home state Nurse Aide Registry. 

CNA Renewal in Kentucky

You may renew your license every two years. You will be required to have worked at least 12 hours within the two-year period. Another requirement is that you must have met the continuing education hours.
