STNA Classes in Ohio

Ohio is among the nation’s industrial powerhouses and tourism also brings in billions of dollars annually. A state this busy needs a well-trained, thoroughly prepared healthcare infrastructure and workforce. STNAs (State Tested Nursing Assistants) are a critical part of a medical team. For those who wish to make an impact on others in the field of medical care, you should certainly look for STNA classes near you to begin preparation for your certification.

A person must receive their STNA certification before beginning work at a healthcare facility. STNA programs last for at least four months and are mandated by state law. The most typical way of obtaining an STNA license is by completing a state-approved program and by taking and passing the competency exam. Those who successfully graduate and pass the exam qualify for placement on the Ohio Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry.

Heart to Heart Health Care Center is a facility that offers quality STNA Nurse Aide Training Classes in Cleveland, Ohio. The program is designed for students with or without previous medical experience, and there are no prerequisites to attend the classes. The program is licensed by the Ohio Department of Health and prepares students for the state certification exam and the job market.

The program is a hybrid model that combines online and on-campus learning. The online component consists of lectures that cover the theoretical knowledge and skills required for the STNA role. The on-campus component consists of lab sessions and clinical practice that provide hands-on experience and supervision. The program requires a total of 75 hours of training, which includes 59 hours of online theory, 16 hours of on-campus lab, and 24 hours of clinical practice at a local health care facility.

The program offers day classes that run from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, for two weeks. The tuition fee is $495, which can be paid in full or in installments. The program also offers payment plans and accepts various payment methods, such as credit cards, money orders, and Paypal. However, the tuition fee does not include the state test fee, which is $104 and paid to a third party.

To enroll in the program, students need to make a payment online, fill out a contact form, and receive the required paperwork via email. Students also need to have a valid photo ID, social security card, uniform, basic computer skills, and internet access. Students do not need to have a high school diploma, GED, background check, TB test, or physical exam to take the classes. However, some employers may require these credentials for hiring.

The program has a strict attendance policy that does not allow any absences from class or clinicals. The only exceptions are death in the immediate family, hospitalization, or court, which require documentation. Students who miss any days will be automatically dismissed from the program. The program also has a limit on the number of students per class, which can range from 16 to 24.

The program provides assistance with the state testing application and offers the test at the sites provided by the testing center. The state test consists of two parts: a skills test and a written test. Students need to pass both parts to obtain the STNA certification.

The program does not offer financial aid, but students can inquire about financial aid through Job and Family Services and other local offices that provide assistance to individuals looking to obtain or advance in a career.

Ohio STNA Certification Requirements

The state of Ohio does not enforce minimal education requirements for prospective candidates trying to earn their STNA license. However, each facility has its own set of standards set for incoming students. Those without a high school diploma may need to pass a reading and writing comprehension exam.

Prospective candidates should also:

  • be at least 16 years of age
  • be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English
  • be able to pass a criminal background check
  • have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • have a valid state-issued ID card
  • have a physical exam and TB clearance (current within 1 year)
  • have meningitis, Hep B, MMR, and Varicella vaccines

Ohio STNA Classes and Testing Costs

STNA schools in the state of Ohio must provide at least 75 hours of classes. 16 hours must be devoted to hands-on experience at a nursing facility. Some state-approved programs even offer a curriculum that exceeds the 75-hour quota. After successfully completing the state-approved certificate program, graduates are eligible to take the state competency exam.

The cost of the STNA program may vary by location and by employers. There are over 400 programs in the state, and they have different tuition fees. However, low-cost STNA courses may be available to qualified candidates in some situations. Nursing homes and long-term care facilities sometimes offer to cover the cost of tuition in exchange for an agreement to work at their facility once the candidate has been certified. When there’s no reduced pricing option available, you can expect tuition fees to range anywhere from $400 to $1500. You’ll also need to consider the cost of the STNA test. The skills test costs $76, while the written test costs $24. In addition to these costs, extra funds should be budgeted for uniforms, shoes, textbooks, and other relevant materials.
