Becoming a CNA in Missouri
Candidates who plan on being enlisted in the Missouri Nurse Aide Registry must complete a CNA program approved by the state which is composed of seventy five (75) hours worth of classroom instruction and a hundred (100) hours worth of clinical or practical work. The evaluation program is offered at various certifying agencies (links below).

Optional Routes for Getting Certified in Missouri
Different routes are offered for different types of Applicants. Consider the following if you are:
- A nursing student or graduate can opt to take a qualifying examination.
- Foreign nursing graduates may also opt for a qualifying examination provided that they complete an orientation module from a CNA training course.
- Individuals that don’t fall in any of the categories above can also apply if they meet special requirements.
Verification of a Missouri Nurse Aide Certification
Applicants that are deemed employable are those whose names are currently listed in the CNA Registry. An employer can have any nurse aide verified to determine if the nurse aide in question is indeed qualified or not (i.e. not listed in the Employee Disqualification List or EDL).

Certification Status of an Inactive Nurse Aide
A nurse aide is deemed inactive if he/she has not performed a day’s worth of a paid nurse-related service within the last two (2) year period. In order to reverse an inactive status, the following documents must be submitted:
- proof of employment
- copy of social security card
- contact number
- current address

Nurse Aides with an Expired Certification Status
A nurse aide that is unable to perform a day’s worth of paid nursing-related service in the past 5 years is deemed to have an expired certification status and is therefore unable to work without retaking a certification exam.

Nurse Aides with Out-of-state Certifications
A nurse aide is deemed to have an out-of-state certification if the said certification was obtained from another state. Before being considered for transfer, the nurse aide in question must be active and free from any issue from the state that issued the certification and has performed eight (8) hours or more in the last two (2) years of their certification period. In order to process the transfer, the following documents needs to be submitted:
- copy of social security card
- copy of the out-of-state certificate
- work verification
- current address
- contact number
Once all the requirements have been met, the applicant will be informed if he/she can partake in the qualifying exam.
