How to Become a CNA in Colorado

Candidates that wish to work in Colorado as CNAs are required to complete a state-approved CNA program with a minimum of 80 hours. After completing the CNA classes, the next step is to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program or NNAAP exam which consists of a written/oral knowledge test and a skills test. Pearson VUE is responsible for administering the certification examination for nurse aides in Colorado as well as managing the registry.

How Do You Renew a Colorado Nurse Aide Certification?

The Colorado Nurse Aide Registry requires CNAs to renew their certifications every 24 months by January 31st on even years. You may use the link below to renew a CNA certificate online.

How Do You Reinstate an Expired Nurse Aide Certificate in Colorado?

An expired CNA certificate can be reinstated online by completing the following requirements:

  • Completed a minimum of 8 hours of paid nursing care work within the last two years. Take note the the work location is not exclusive to the state of Colorado.
  • In possession of CNA nurse aide certificate within the last 24 months.

How Do You Transfer a CNA Certificate to Colorado?

A current CNA license holder from any state can transfer their certificate to Colorado without taking any exam. This can be accomplished by applying online via endorsement. Additionally, they are permitted to work in Colorado even with a pending transfer of certification provided that the previous certificate has been verified. However, the process of transferring a  certificate will need to be completed within 4 months of employment.
