North Dakota Nurse Aide Registry

Becoming a Nurse Aide in North Dakota

Eligibility requirements for aspiring CNA applicants in the state of North Dakota are as follows:

  • Successful completion of a LNA training program and competency evaluation approved by the department

or

  • Achieve a passing score in competency evaluation exam approved by the department.

Note: Applications sent via mail are no longer accepted. Hence, all CNA applications are now processed electronically.

CNA Certification Renewal in North Dakota

CNAs in North Dakota are advised to have their license renewed every 2 years to remain active in the nurse registry. The first step in achieving this is to submit a renewal application along with proof of employment. Employment eligibility is reserved for applicants that have performed at least 8 hours of paid nurse-related work within the last 2 years of the certification period. The status of nurse aide applicant will be updated in the registry once all of the aforementioned requirements have been satisfied.

Reinstating an Expired LNA Certificate in North Dakota

Applicants that don’t fall under the eligibility requirements for license renewal can opt for reinstatement by retaking the competency exam. In the event that there are further lapses with the certification in question, additional training may be required.

Transferring an Out-of-State Certificate to North Dakota via Endorsement

An out of state candidate can have his/her certificate transferred to North Dakota Registry provided the following are met:

  • Must be in good standing from the state where the license was obtained
  • Completion and submission of an endorsement form

Once all of the above requirements have been settled, the applicant will be granted reciprocity and added to the North Dakota CNA Registry.
