Oklahoma Nurse Aide Registry

Getting Certified as a Nurse Aide in Oklahoma

An individual that wants to get listed in the Oklahoma Nurse Registry must enroll and pass in a CNA training program followed by taking a competency exam, both of which must be approved by the state. CNA applicants are only given three (3) chances to take and pass the competency exam within two (2) years prior to taking training program. Any candidate that fails to pass the competency exam within three (3) attempts will need to undergo retraining before being allowed to take the competency exam.

Types of Nurse Aides Certifications in Oklahoma

There are different types of certified nurse aides, six in total, in the state of Oklahoma:

  • LTC – Long Term Care Aide
  • DDCA – Developmentally Disabled Direct Care Aide
  • HHA – Home Health Aide
  • ADC – Adult Day Care Aide
  • RCA – Residential Care Aide
  • CMA – Certified Medication Aide

Getting Nurse Aides Re-certified in Oklahoma

Nurse aides in the state of Oklahoma are required to renew their certificates every 2 years. One of the prerequisites for this is to provide proof of work done consisting of 8 hours or more of compensated nurse-related service during the latest certification period. However, private duty work does not count towards recertification eligibility.

Lapsed Nurse Aide Certificate Reinstatement in Oklahoma

Applicants that are unable to comply with the requirements for recertification mentioned above are required to retake the test in order to have their certification reinstated. Retaking the test is only permitted once and failure to do so will also require retraining.

CNA Certification Transfer via Reciprocity

CNA certification transfer to the state of Oklahoma can be done through reciprocity and will depend on the following criteria:

  • In possession of a currently active certificate.
  • The certificate in question must currently be in good standing and free from neglect, resident abuse, or misappropriation of property, and/or criminal convictions.

If all the criteria mentioned above has been met, the applicant can proceed in filling out a reciprocity application and send it to the Nurse Aide Registry.
