Delaware is known for the beautiful beaches, low taxes and affordable housing. Many baby boomers are retiring to this state as a result of all of these benefits. According to the United States Census Bureau, demographics are showing an increase in the rate for those over the age of 65 in Delaware. As a result, if you are considering becoming a Certified Nursing Aide in the state of Delaware, now would be considered a great time.
Delaware CNA Certification Requirements
When considering becoming a Certified Nursing Aide in the State of Delaware there are two governing bodies that oversee the process; the Division of Long Term Care Residents Protection and the Delaware Nurse Aide Registry. Both governing bodies require that those interested in becoming a CNA are required to pass a state-accredited program and pass the state evaluation process. Once both requirements are met then the DLTCRP will approve your name to be added to the state CNA Registry. During classes, Delaware does allow you to apply for employment and work for 120 days at long term care facilities prior to evaluation. You will only be allowed to perform tasks that you have already received certification for.
There are exceptions to this process for those who are nursing students, foreign nurses, out of state CNAs and military-trained CNAs. Delaware does offer reciprocity to those who have a current CNA license in other states. There is an application that you can download from online if you are seeking reciprocity that you can submit with a $30 fee.
