CNA Classes in Washington

The state of Washington is something of a model for other organizations who want to improve their services for the elderly. Well-trained health professionals are needed to support the already impressive establishments that require certified nursing assistants. Those who are interested in becoming a CNA in Washington will be expected to deliver excellent service.

It is possible for many people to obtain the proper training, but a high school diploma will be a distinct advantage for applicants. The state requires formal training and certification for long-term employment. It is possible to obtain certification if you meet the training requirements listed below.

Washington CNA Certification Requirements

Some specific requirements will be expected of those who want to pursue CNA certification and good standing on the CNA registry. These include:

  • An age of 18 years or older
  • Washington state background check
  • Valid state-issued ID card
  • Proof of negative TB test
  • Physical capability to stand for long time periods and lift up a minimum of 40 pounds
  • Basic reading, writing and comprehension skills
  • Varicella, Hep B, and MMR vaccines
  • 100% attendance and class participation

Those who graduate from high school and have taken science, anatomy, and math classes will be at an advantage, will grasp training material with more ease, and may earn higher salaries.

Washington CNA Training & Testing Costs

To gain certification in the state of Washington, applicants must pass training courses. The demands of course training may vary, but a minimum of 85 hours is expected for formal certification. Seven of these hours should be devoted to HIV/AIDS training as well as safety and emergency skills. Clinical hours should also be part of the curriculum; students should be trained how to perform practical tasks in an off-site nursing facility.

The cost of CNA training tends to be reasonable in Washington. It is possible to acquire free training in many areas of the state. Otherwise, classes may cost up to $1350. Students may have to pay additional expenses such as uniforms, books, and other supplies. There may be payment options to assist students to manage the cost of their training. Financial aid, however, is hard to find for CNA students. For information on free CNA training in Washington, follow this link.
