Becoming a Nurse Aide in Oregon

Applicants that have undergone and successfully passed the level-1 program for CNAs within the last 24 months can apply to test in order to get certified within the registry. Test takers are advised to review the Candidate Handbook for Oregon before submitting their application.

There are also other routes to consider when applying for a CNA certificate. These are:

  • Current or recent RN or LPN students
  • Candidates who took CNA instruction programs outside of Oregon
  • Registered nurses and licensed practical nurses in OR
  • Military corpsman or medic training individuals.

Renewing CNA Certificates in Oregon

CNAs whose certificates have expired no more than sixty (60) days are entitled for license renewal. An application form is available below for interested applicants.

Reactivating an Expired CNA Certification in Oregon

CNAs in the state of Oregon whose certificates have been expired for sixty one (61) days or more are entitled to have it reactivated. Please refer to the link below for further details.

Out-of State CNA Certificate Transfer via Endorsement

For applicants that have yet to be certified in the Nurse Aide Registry of Oregon but is in possession of a CNA certificate elsewhere in the USA are entitled for transfer by endorsement. The requirements are:

  • Currently in hold of an active certificate from the state of origin
  • Is free from issues that would compromise their active status such as legal or criminal records

Also, if the applicant in question has completed his/her training more than two (2) years prior to the endorsement, he/she will also be required to perform a minimum of four hundred (400) hours of paid nurse aide services before being accepted.
